FIRST EDITION of Alain Locke's acclaimed monograph on the music of the Harlem Renaissance. Considered the "Dean" of the Harlem Renaissance, this volume was the second in Locke's eventual eight volume "Bronze Booklet" series that delved into the music and visual arts of the period. "The Negro and His Music displays Locke's critical skills in full flower. The book sketches a short but sweeping background about the role of music in American culture." Condition
Wrappers lacking staples, fully detached from text. Some wear to wrappers including chipping and damage to spine where staples were removed. Minor paper residue from p. 142 affixed to interior of back cover.
